My guy for Vice-President!

So here I am again. It's been quite a week in the Thompson household. I don't hear much baseball talk these days. It seems the kids primary interest (sports that is) has turned to football. They have their first game next Friday so all they have been doing so far is practising, which sounds like a lot of work to me. Anyway he's back in school so at least he gets out of the house pretty early every morning.

Today was my Guy's birthday but they didn't celebrate much, though he did get a funny card. The boss fixed him a special steak dinner this evening but of course I can't eat beef (it makes me have seizures) so I settled for some pasta, which I really like anyway. He hasn't told me how old he is but I kind of think we're about the same age in human years so that's why we are such good friends.

I was listening the other day when my family was watching TV and I understand McCain (or as my guy calls him "McBush") announced that he was choosing some woman to be his "vice presidential running mate" (doesn't that sound stupid). I don't remember her name but it seems that one thing that made her such a good choice to be in line for the presidency of this US of A (whatever the hell that is) is that she was the mayor of some small town in some obscure place. The man should have checked with me and I could have given him a better choice, the mayor of our town -- or as I like to call him "my guy!" Jeez, he's been mayor of our town for something like 6 years now (and I hear he running again, though I kind of wish he weren't so he wouldn't have to go to so many meeting at night when I like to have him home so we can enjoy our together time). But if they want the best I guess I'm willing to sacrifice.

Of course he wouldn't running with the guy who chose the woman anyway, he's be running with the one who's going to win and be the next president of the US of A (I think his name is Barack Obama, my guy and the boss talk about him a lot!).

Barack Obama, President of the United States, that sounds good to me!!

Keep the peace, vote for Democrats -- and give your dog some pets and a special treat occasionally! You will be rewarded liberally!

Another day, another nap!

I've kind of taken the day off so I thought I might accomplish at least a short journal entry before I go to bed.

It's been a pretty good week in the Thompson house. We got the flooring done and it looks pretty nice. I don't like laying on it though so I was glad to hear the boss talking about getting some area rugs, maybe tomorrow in The Dalles (I hope). The kid (Russell) has been doing "daily doubles: (twice a day football practices) this past week so he spends most of the time sleeping when he's home. Next week school starts so I guess they will only be practicing for a couple hours after school everyday. I think I heard him say their first game is in two weeks, which sounds to me like a long time off. I know he's looking forward to getting the evaluation of his baseball workout from last week. So are my guy and the Boss.

My guy has started back to his school bus driving job this past week, driving the Condon girl volleyball players to Fossil for vb practice. I guess he starts his regular school bus route to Lonerock (52 miles round trip) next Monday. This year he has 5 kids to pick up, an increase of one over last year.

I have to leave for a few minutes now, my guy wants to watch some speech that Barack Obama is giving on TV. He and the boss are political junkies so (they're liberals) I get to hear a lot about politics and sometimes just watch them cuss at the TV whnever some commentator spouts off some rightwing conservative crap, which according to them happens a lot. I'll try to get back to this tonight.

See ya!

Well, it's now the following Sunday, the 31st, so instead of writing more on this post, I'm going to start a new one. Hope that doesn't confuse all you dog-lovers too much.
Keep the peace, pet your dog and keep your cat in the garage.

The more things change .. the more they don't!

sometimes it's even too hot for Chihuahuas. Thank God for air conditioning!

Well, I'm a little late in getting back to this but I have a good excuse. Remeber that project I wrote about in my last posting. Well, it took a few days lonmger than my guy (and the boss) projected. In truth it's not fully fininhed yet but, as my guy says, the hardest part is done. All that's left is to put on the molding around the walls. My guy went out and bought a small air compressor and nail gun to do that job but he decided it was just too hot (over 100% the last three days) to even start the task. Hopefully it can be finished in one day when he does get to it.

I've got to tell you about the kid's (Russell) baseball experience last week. Actually, I wasn't there because they left me home to guard the house but the rest of the family went to Mt. Hood Community College in Troutdale last wednesday where Russell was "evaluated" for his potential to play college baseball -- and hopefully receive an athletic scholarship. From what I understand is was a pretty thorough evaluation of his baseball pitching skills and we will receive the results of the evaluation in about a month. We all have our fingers (paws) crossed. The good thing is that Russell thought it was a good experience and he thought he did "OK"., whatever that means.

Well, summer is coming to a pretty quick close now, tomorrow my guy goes back to driving the sports bus shuttle and the kid starts his "daily doubles" football practice. Oh, and before I forget, tomorrow is also my folk' (adopted) 47th wedding anniversary. I think I better remind my guy about that when we get up in the morning. I don't know what they have planned but I hope it includes treats for their best dog. Also coming up on Wenesday is the kids (Russell) 17th birthday. I'm going to try to go the whole day without barking at him.

Well enough for now. Tis hot weather really wears me out so it's time for antother nap.

Keep the peace - and be nice to your dog!

Time flys when your ...

taking a nap!

Well, it's been a week and I've had a lot of naps but my people have kept pretty busy. Here's a quick recap.

My guy (Dale) got a few things done between naps He and the Boss (Patti) finally decided that the garden needed a lot of work (i.e. water) if what was left of it was going to survive and produce anything. Previously my guy thought he could get away with just watering it around the plants with a watering can, and even then he forgot to do it just about as often as he remembered to. Obvious to me that just wasn't enough but I didn't want to make a big thing of it so I didn't say anything. Finally the Boss figured that what they needed to do was to water with a sprinkler so that the whole bed got wet, not just a few inches around the plant. I wasn't at all surprised when in a couple of days the tomatoe plants, the zuchinni, the corn, and the green pepper plants had all revived and are looking good. Unfortunately the bean plants in one of the raised beds were beyond help so no fresh garden green beans for us this year. They aren't one of my favorite table snacks anyway so no big deal as far as I'm concerned.

Just today they finally got started on a big project they have been talking about (and putting off) for a long time. They are pulling up all the carpet in the living room and hallway and putting down laminated flooring (that they purchased about three months ago and had been stored in the shop). I was beginning to wonder if it was ever going to happen. Of course I kind of like the old carpet ( the many odors and stains of of old friends long gone) but as long as they let me up on the couch to nap or my guy lets me sleep on his lap I'm not going to complain. I think it's going to go pretty well, too, because they got the kid (Russell) helping and with his effort it seems to go pretty fast -- and not near as much cussing.

Well, there's probably a lot more stuff I could talk about but it's getting late and I'm really ready for a good night's sleep.

Hope you all have a good week
Be nice to your neighbors ( but not to the neighbor's cats!)
